Michael Sweet Unveils ‘Lord’ Video as Second Single From Most Personal Solo Album Yet

Stryper frontman’s worship-driven ‘The Master Plan’ marks bold creative departure, arriving April 3 via Frontiers Music Srl

Michael Sweet has released “Lord,” the second single from his forthcoming solo album “The Master Plan,” and it signals a creative evolution for an artist who has spent decades balancing commercial success with spiritual conviction. Set for release on April 3, 2026 via Frontiers Music Srl, the album represents Sweet’s most personal and spiritually resonant solo work to date, a record designed not for arenas but for moments of prayer, praise and quiet contemplation.

Talking about the project makes it clear this is no ordinary Michael Sweet solo record. Co-produced with Jeff Savage, whose credits include work with TobyMac, Jars of Clay, and Natalie Imbruglia, “The Master Plan” is a deeply worship-inspired effort that blends heartfelt devotion with fresh musical textures and melodic depth unlike anything Sweet has attempted before. The shift is intentional and complete. This is not heavy metal dressed in religious imagery, it is sincere spiritual expression that happens to come from one of Christian rock’s most recognizable voices.

Sweet’s unmistakable voice leads a tapestry of heartfelt worship, inviting listeners to reflect, celebrate and draw closer to the timeless truths at the heart of his message. With sweeping arrangements and a sincere spiritual core, the album offers both comfort and inspiration, music that comforts the weary, uplifts the spirit, and celebrates the profound love at the center of Sweet’s faith journey. The new single “Lord” follows the release of the title track in January, and both tracks reinforce the album’s purpose: to inspire peace, faith and encouragement rather than simply entertain.

For those unfamiliar with Sweet beyond his solo work, his primary vehicle remains Stryper, the iconic Christian rock band he has fronted for over four decades. With over 10 million albums sold worldwide, Stryper became renowned for its distinctive brand of “heavenly metal” and extraordinary crossover success at a time when Christian rock was largely relegated to the margins of the music industry. The group ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40 hits including “Calling on You,” “Honestly,” and “Always There for You,” demonstrating that explicitly faith-based lyrics could coexist with commercial radio success. Stryper made history as the first band to ever have two songs in MTV’s Top 10 simultaneously with their hits “Free” and “Honestly,” a remarkable achievement that underscored their ability to reach audiences far beyond the Christian music niche.

That crossover appeal has sustained Stryper’s global fanbase through multiple decades and shifting musical landscapes, but Sweet’s creative ambitions have never been contained by a single project. Beyond Stryper, he has cultivated a successful solo career, co-founded rock outfit Sweet & Lynch, and served as vocalist and guitarist for legendary classic rock band Boston from 2007 to 2011. His extensive body of work demonstrates an artist capable of moving fluidly between musical contexts while maintaining his core identity and spiritual foundation.

“The Master Plan” is now available for pre-order, with the full album releasing April 3, 2026 via Frontiers Music Srl. For an artist with Sweet’s track record, a worship album might seem like a natural progression, but the deliberate shift in tone and texture suggests something deeper than simple evolution. This is an artist at a point in his career where commercial considerations take a backseat to spiritual expression, where the goal is not chart performance but connection, both with his faith and with listeners seeking something beyond entertainment.
