Czech extreme metal festival Brutal Assault announces final additions for July 1-5 event at Josefov Fortress as tickets vanish rapidly
Brutal Assault has officially announced that the lineup for its 2026 edition is complete, with festival organizers issuing a crucial warning that tickets are vanishing rapidly and a sell-out is imminent. The five-day metal marathon takes place at the historic Josefov Fortress, an 18th-century military fortress in the Czech Republic, transforming once again into the epicenter of global extreme music.

The only minor exception to the completed lineup is the last few names that will fill the experimental and electronic KAL stage (Keep Ambient Lodge) in the coming days. Across five stages, the festival offers one of the most genre-diverse programs in its history, featuring genre legends, contemporary icons, and exclusive musical projects.
The festival’s dramaturgy builds from the very first moment toward the Saturday finale, with each day balanced both thematically and genre-wise.
The festival grounds open Tuesday with a traditional warm-up party featuring ‘The Laws‘ performing Sarcófago, joined by funeral-doom masters ‘Ahab‘ and deathcore act ‘Filth‘.
Wednesday’s first full festival day features modern progressive metallers ‘Periphery‘, avant-garde darkness from Tom G. Warrior’s ‘Triptykon‘, thrash metal act ‘Municipal Waste‘, and Belgian sludge post-metal visionaries ‘Amenra‘.
Thursday will be dominated by one of the biggest sensations of this edition, crossover-thrash legends ‘Body Count‘ featuring Ice-T. Alongside them, the fortress will experience the death metal of ‘Deicide‘, Finnish melodic masters ‘Amorphis‘, and an exclusive performance by ‘Waltari‘, who will play their album “Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony in Deep C” accompanied by a full symphony orchestra.
Friday brings genre diversity and instrumental genius, with cult funk-metal act ‘Primus‘ arriving in Josefov. A unique set is promised by Icelandic black metal project ‘Misþyrming‘, with Nergal playing ‘Behemoth‘s’ “Sventevith,” alongside Swedish rap-metal veterans ‘Clawfinger‘ and progressive-metal wizards ‘Animals as Leaders‘.
Saturday’s final day belongs to the absolute climax, offering dark gothic legends ‘Cradle of Filth‘, Nordic ritual ambient from ‘Wardruna‘, epic doom metal fathers ‘Candlemass‘, and modern hardcore from America’s ‘The Ghost Inside‘.
Looking at this year’s headliner roster, it is clear that Brutal Assault 2026 relies on exclusivity. The combination of Icelandic ferocity with old material from Polish icons in the ‘Misþyrming’ and Nergal plays ‘Behemoth’s’ “Sventevith” set promises a black mass that will be remembered for a long time. The connection of Finnish stalwarts ‘Waltari’ with a symphony orchestra shows that the festival is not afraid to break boundaries and bring fans artistic experiences of the highest caliber.
Beyond the music, Brutal Assault has become a comprehensive experience. The festival’s culinary zone ranks among the best at European open-air events, expanding again this year with an extremely diverse selection of meals from around the world. Lovers of classic festival meat such as burgers, BBQ ribs, and pulled meat, as well as followers of a healthy lifestyle, will find their fit. The festival is renowned for its above-standard offer for vegans and vegetarians, including plant-based burgers, Asian wok pans, Indian specialties, and vegan desserts, along with a wide selection of gluten-free options. Visitors can choose from dozens of types of beer on tap, from classic lagers to craft specialties from microbreweries.
The festival also offers a strong accompanying program that utilizes the unique fortress environment. In the underground casemates and corridors, dark exhibitions, sculptures, and paintings by international artists associated with the metal subculture will be on display. A festival cinema will showcase cult horror movies, B-movies, and documentaries, complemented by author readings. Fans can take guided candlelight tours of the historical underground labyrinth of the Josefov fortress. The KAL stage (Keep Ambient Lodge) will offer deep ambient, noise, dark electronics, and industrial projects, while traditional meet and greet signing sessions with selected bands will take place inside the festival grounds.
According to a statement from the organizing team, only the last few percent of the total capacity remain in the official pre-sale. The historic fortress has strict limits that cannot be exceeded for safety and comfort reasons, and everything indicates that the festival will be completely sold out in the coming weeks, with no tickets available on-site.
